Orchardgrass — Dactylis glomerata — Family: Poaceae — Grass
Orchardgrass is a competitive perennial grassy weed of cool-season turf. It has a very well developed fibrous root system and can be difficult to remove once established. Orchardgrass has a very compressed sheath and a distinctive blue-green color. Orchardgrass can tolerate routine mowing and will often grow at a rate of two-to-three times the rate of the desired turf.

Because orchardgrass has a fibrous root system but does not spread by rhizomes it can be possible to physically remove the offending clumps. It may be necessary to monitor the area in order to remove any regrowth that may occur.
